Complete eye care and optical services

Welcome to the optometry office of Fashion Valley Eye Works.  We are located on the second floor of the Fashion Valley Mall near Nordstrom.  We are a full service optometry office offering comprehensive eye exams, diagnosis and treatment of various ocular diseases, and co-management for LASIK and Cataract surgery.  Our office has a group of doctors to service your visual needs: Dr. Matthew La, Dr. Thu Nguyen, and Dr. Tina Chiou.  Dr. Matthew La graduated from the New England College of Optometry and has been practicing optometry for several years.  He has worked in several optometry practice settings (private, commerical, and ophthalmology) throughout Riverside and San Diego County.  Dr. Thu Nguyen graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Dr. Tina Chiou graduated from SUNY Optometry in New York.  Both Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Chiou are finishing up their optometry residency; specializing in ocular disease and specialty contact lens fitting.  Our office offers comprehensive eye exams, glasses, and contacts.  Eye exams start @ $59 and soft spherical contact lens exams start @ $114.

Comprehensive Eye Exams
We provide vision care to a wide range of patients.  In addition to standard refraction, we are able to detect systemic conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancers, sun damage or diabetes by an eye exam.  We are also able to detect early signs of cataract, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

Contact Lens Fitting
We will measure the shape of your eyes and find contacts to ensure the most comfortable fit for your eyes and needs.  We specialize in hard to fit contacts lenses.  We fit spherical, toric, multifocal, gas permeable (spherical, bitoric, multifocal, and keratoconic), X chrome contact lenses, scleral contacts, and hybrid contact lenses (synergy contacts).

Red, Pink, Itchy or Sore Eyes
Pink eye can be caused by several factors.  It can be something simply as dry eyes to an eye infection.  We will find the etiology and treat the underlying cause.

Management of various ocular diseases

Visual Field Testing
This part of the exam test your peripheral (side) vision.  A field defect can indicate glaucoma or more serious neurological problems.

Dilated Fundus Exam
In order to give us the best possible view of your eye, you have the option to have your pupils dilated.  This will give us a better view of the back of your eyes and helps to detect potential problems that cannot be seen with a standard comprehensive eye exam.

Pupil dilation can reveal general health problems like hypertension, and can also catch early signs of glaucoma and cataracts.

Foreign Body Removal
Scratches and scrapes to the eye surface happen regularly. Occasionally particles become lodged in the eye and are difficult to get out. We are skilled in the removal of foreign bodies and the treatment of scratches and scapes to the cornea.  A metal foreign body can start to cause rust to develop in the cornea if not removed quickly.

When coming in to your appointment:

Be sure to bring a pair of your current glasses or a box of your current contacts.  This gives us a starting point to test your vision.  It also helps you find out how much your prescription changed.  Often times, we find out that your pair of glasses was made incorrectly, which is likely the cause of your poor vision.

If you are unsure about your insurance benefits, please give us a call ahead of time so that we can verify them and expedite your visit.

If you plan on or anticipate having your eyes dilated, bring a pair of your prescription sunglasses or your regular glasses (sunglasses will be provided to wear over your glasses) so that you can safely drive home afterwards.  Once we dilate your eyes, you will be hypersensitive to sunlight so this is for your own protection.  You may alternatively want to consider asking someone else to drive you to your eye appointment, or accompany you on public transportation.
